Painting with Water Soluble Oils

Join Bob, a local art educator, to explore oil painting without the fuss and bother of turpentine, oily rags, etc. Beginners or more advanced painters will receive individual guidance in practicing simple and effective approaches to still life, portrait, and landscape. Calligraphy

This popular class is designed for beginners and those with introductory experience and will only be offered this Fall by Lydia. This is a nuts and bolts intro to beautiful handwriting! This 12 hours of studio work will begin with examination of letter shapes and proportions using pencils and markers, then proceed to the exploration of letterforms for the Italic style of writing (both lower and upper cases) using the broad edge nib and ink. Join Lydia, a CVU educator, in learning about layout, use of color, and paper choices, as everyone will complete basic lettering projects. Once you gain the power of the pen, you can use this skill for a lifetime. More styles will be covered if time allows. Quality pens and all materials and handouts are included in the fee.

Contact Improvisation is a social dance form that is sometimes described as a cross between experiential physics and flying. Music Games for Kids (ages 4-8) and Parents

Kids and parents will have a rocking blast while singing dozens of traditional songs and learning original songs and games that encourage participation and dancing. Everyone gets to help create new original songs and new versions of familiar ones. Many music genres and basic music theory will be introduced. Peter will also lead story telling adventures accompanied by sound effects and music. Kids will get hands on experence with a wide variety of instruments from hand drums to accordian to electric guitar. Pizza will be provided for a quick snack before or after class. Bicycle Traffic Skills 101 (ages 16 & up)

Learn the “art of vehicular bicycling.” This course combines classroom discussion, activities along with on-road practice of the principles of vehicular-style bicycling. DJ Techniques (ages 10 and up open to parents)

Students will learn DJ turntable music mixing techniques, beat matching, and scratching on real vinyl and digital Serato Scratchlive. Sessions also include a lyric writing workshop and criticism as well as rap battling techniques and Stage presence. Beat Production and audio processing and mixing will be emphasized as well. Each student will get a free studio recording of their DJing, production and/or lyrics at the end of the session and a video of a group performance will be filmed for You-tube. Parenting Success Seminar-Monthly Support Group

Don’t have time for a regular parenting class, but still need some extra support in raising happy, healthy kids? CY-Connecting Youth in Chittenden South is delighted to offer its first monthly support group for parents of 12 to 17 year-olds. Many parents who took the Guiding Good Choices and Staying Connected With Your Teen courses requested a follow up session to discuss issues in more detail. If you have ever participated in any of the CY Parenting Programs or just want the opportunity to learn some quick tips, then please join us this fall. The CY Parent Support Group will begin meeting this fall on three Saturdays, with the first session on September 26th from 11 am -1 pm at CVU High School. Parenting Success Seminar-Monthly Support Group

The Motorcycle Awareness Program

This hands on workshop challenges participants to create a dreamboard of their own using pictures. The act of defining your dreams and creating a visual will become a daily reminder of future goals. Have you ever looked at a dream vacation advertisement? Imagined walking on the beautiful beach, feeling the warmth of the sun and listening to the rhythm of the waves? Picturing it is seeing and feeling it almost as if you are there. That is Dreamboarding! Learn how to create your very own dreamboard focusing on one specific area of your life. Materials necessary to create your dreamboard will be supplied, although bringing along some of your favorite magazines to cut up will add to your experience. Bring enthusiasm for creating your vision.

Have you always wanted to learn a handful of totally useful knots instead of asking for help or needing to cut your ropes? Here is your chance to learn the trucker's hitch, the bowline, the half hitch and more to make your household, boat, or travel life secure. This class will teach you knots that are easy to learn and that you can use everywhere. If you can't fasten a suitcase on your roof after this class you get your money back! This class is designed for those who only know how to tie your shoelaces.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair to Support Access Scholarships

Wednesday 9:00-10:00 p.m. 1 week Starts December 2
Come to Barnes & Noble or go to www.barnesandnoble.com on December 2, 2009 to support Access CVU scholarships. Buy any product with an Access CVU voucher and a portion of the proceeds will go to our scholarship funds. Go to the online store anytime on December 2 or 5 days afterwards. This is a great way to support local community education and buy gifts for self, family, or friends. Access CVU scholarships primarily support incoming 9th graders who cannot afford to attend the CVU Summer Camp. Additional scholarships go local community members who participate in Access CVU classes. Check out the new Winter Session at Barnes & Noble on December 2nd. Check out all the cool stuff at the store and visit Access class demos throughout the day.
