Mosaic Flowerpot - Level I

Color Play for Gardeners

Most of us have gardens that lack originality and have grown dull either through neglect or old age.  Learn how to rejuvenate an existing space or create a new planting bed using the colors you love - cool greens for shady corners, bold and bright hues or a subdued spectrum for sunny beds and borders.  Participants will make color templates and mock-ups using  garden catalogs which can be used as a reference when shopping for new plants.  Bring along dimensions of your own garden or one you are interested in creating when the ground thaws. Carving for Beginners - The Spoon

Join Matthew, a life long carver and whittler, as he shares his talents with this hands-on presentation for those interested in learning how to carve correctly with quality tools.  Participants will start with a basswood blank, and leave with a perfectly usable 6" spoon with your own personalized handle.  Matthew, owner of his own architectural carving business in Stowe, brings a wealth of knowledge to this introductory carving course.   The key to easy carving is a good tool.  We will have high quality carving knives and chisels available for everyone to use, with an option to purchase the two at our cost after the class.  Look for Whittling for Beginners in the spring session when we can get out in the woods to select branches.   Instructor: Matthew Strong  Fee: $30    Optional purchase of knife and chisel, add $30. Painting with Water Soluble Oils

Calligraphy - Intermediate

Join Lydia for the next steps in developing your calligraphy skills.  You will learn three more styles of lettering, using the same tools and equipment in the beginner class. Styles covered: Uncial (Irish style), Foundational (similar to Times New Roman), and basic exploration of Roman Capitals.  If you have not taken a class here, and yet you know some calligraphy from other sources, this might also be the place for you.  Satisfaction guaranteed.  Bring the supplies from Level I class and we'll just use them in different ways! Photography Skills - B&W Film

Designed for beginners through skilled amateurs, Sarah can help you learn quickly.  For beginners, this will be your introduction to black and white film developing and darkroom printing.  For the more advanced student, Sarah, an Alfred University graduate in the arts -photography major, will encourage you to improve your skills in composition, lighting, and darkroom techniques.  With her wealth of experience and knowledge in the field, there will be plenty of time to discuss your individual challenges as you learn.  This is a hands-on, small lab learning experience.  Develop your own film and prints.  Bring your own film camera to learn how to use it most effectively.  Extra darkroom lab time from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Woodworking - You Build It!!

This class is designed for beginners and those with a specific project they would like to work on in the shop.  Participants will learn the basics of woodworking through the construction of a small project of their choosing such as an end table, shelf, or gun rack.  Brett, a certified design and technology educator, will lead everyone through design, tool use and then construction.   Former Access wood class participants bringing in their own project should start on February 2.  All others begin January 26.  Over the 24 hours of shop time, everyone will utilize many of the hand and power tools in the CVU shop. Rustic Furniture - Adult Chair

Join Michael, a local artisan, in creating your own heirloom within 2 weeks.  Build your own full-size rustic adult chair made of birch and alder.  Michael goes out in the woods to gather all the materials.  All materials including hardware part of fee.  Participants should bring a reliable drill and several drill bits, hammer and measuring tape. Italian Easter Desserts

Born from a tradition of visiting neighbors and sharing food, this holiday dessert recipe has been in Adele's family for generations.  Everyone in Italy makes ricotta cheese cake their own way, depending on the region of the country they are from, and here is a chance to enjoy one delicious variation on a theme. Everyone will go home with an 8" round cake to share.  Additionally, you will make a traditional citrus flavored cookie with a sugar glaze and decorated with sprinkles. Learn DJ turntable music-mixing techniques, beat matching, and scratching on real vinyl and digital Serato Scratchlive. Sessions also include a lyric writing workshop and criticism as well as rap battling techniques and stage presence. West African Drum Class

The Art of Soap Making - Advanced

This is a hands-on workshop that covers milk-based methods and understanding for traditional soap making techniques.  We will make a lovely batch of naturally-scented goat's milk soap, with milk from local Vermont goats!  Supplies and handouts are included. Bring a 1-quart, paperboard milk/soymilk carton to use for a mold, and an old bath towel for wrapping the soap - to keep it warm as it solidifies. You will leave with a sample of the soap you helped to make, and instructions for curing and aging it on your own. The traditional soap making process incorporates the use of lye, which is caustic. Great Baking: Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Stroller Strides

"Great Decisions" Foreign Policy Discussion

Pruning Trees and Shrubs -Yours and Ours

What's Wrong With My Tree?

Bridge for Beginners

These lessons feature a “hands on” teaching approach with students learning the game by doing exercises with actual cards at the table. No knowledge of bridge is required. If you always wanted to learn, this is a great opportunity in what has become an Access regular offering.  A lifetime of fun follows as people everywhere are playing bridge.  The 8 week course will give participants basic bidding system and card playing skills to build on with continued practice. Mindful Meditation For Beginners

Intro to Shamanic Journeying

Baby Sitting - American Red Cross - 2 days After School

Parenting Tips for Success Seminar
CY-Connecting Youth will offer a one day seminar to help parents polish their parenting skills and give them tips on how to face some of the more challenging adolescent issues.  This seminar will be held on Saturday, January 17, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at CVU High School.   The snow date will be Saturday, January 24.  Throughout the day, parents will learn how to: strengthen their family bonds; improve communication amongst all members of the family; set clear expectations and guidelines; express and control anger in healthy ways; increase children's participation in the family; and help their children make healthy choices. The day is open to all parents and guardians, of children in grades 5-10, in the Chittenden South District and includes lunch and snacks. The cost is $30 per parent and some scholarships are available. Horsemanship for Adults

1200 Miles on Camel - Why?

In 1971, Bill Mares journeyed with a friend 1200 miles on the back of camels from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Amman, Jordan.  Their goal, to search for pre-Islamic poetry and catch up with the last of the migrating Bedouin tribes in the great Nefud Desert.  What happened along the way turned out to be the real find, as in any great adventure.  Besides co-writing two books on the subject following his journey, The Golden Ode and Passing Brave, Bill has had time in his life to be a legislator, educator, pundit, and beekeeper of some renown.  Join Bill for this Middle East story without bloodshed, putting geography into context.   Bring your own water.
